Becoming A First Time Mum…

I don’t think there is anything that could prepare you for parenthood. No matter how much we read, how many classes we take, its bound to take you by surprise. After all your about to raise a human.

I found out I was pregnant with Mia back in July 2015. I then flew to cancun where I experienced the best but worst holiday of my life!

I suffered with Hyperemesis Gravidarum and no matter how hard I try, I cannot explain how painful it is. If you have been there you will know what I mean. Being in a really hot climate made this all so much harder, along with jet lag and not being in the comfort of your own home. You

can imagine.

I started to feel a whole lot better around 15-16 weeks, and my appetite was finally back. I really enjoyed my pregnancy after this and looked forward to the shopping, finding out the gender, and planning a baby shower.

We was so happy and excited when we found out we was having a little girl.I always imaged it as we all do, sitting brushing hair, painting nails and just having a mini you! We headed straight to the shops and brought a few little bits.

Fast forwarding to February 27th 2016. D- Day! Its my due date! I woke up in the night with contractions. Although i did not know this at first, being first pregnancy and all I wasn’t too sure what I was looking for.

The contractions wore off throughout the morning, and I took it easy at home all afternoon. I had baths and just relaxed. The contractions started again in the evening but were very on and off. I realised at this point it was false labour,  I just had to wait out for my body to kickstart the real thing.

And so my body did……

That night I woke around 3am and the contractions were full on. I phoned the hospital in the morning, but as my contractions were not 5 minutes apart, I had to try and labour at home for longer. I ended up going to hospital at 9am and I was 4cm. I laboured through the rest of the day and Mia was born at 2:58am on the 29th February 2016.

I had a leap year baby! We call her our little leapling.

Our hearts grew, our love grew, and we could not wait to get home and start as a family of 3.
