Tips To Keep On Top Of The Housework With Kids…

Since having my second baby I am finding it a lot harder to keep on top of the housework. Half the time I just feel like I have gone round the same bit in circles, especially when my toddler is in destruct mode.

I thought I would put together some tips that I like to use to help me keep on top of everything. Obviously there are times where I feel like I am drowning in it all, but just by following these steps I can help keep my self a float.

Try and have a home for everything. There is nothing worse then looking on the sides and there just being loads of stuff. Put everything away and it will feel a lot less cluttered around the home.

Set a big task monthly like dusting all the blinds, clean the sofa, descaling appliances. Doing these once a month will help you keep on top of big jobs that often get neglected.

This one can be kept on top of whilst you bath the kids. Put the kids in the bath and clean the bathroom. Your tackling both bedtime and your bathroom clean. It’s a win, win. Obviously never leave your children unattended whilst in the bath.

Walking through a room that has stuff on the floor? Pick it all up as your walking through and quickly deal with it. You could even keep a little basket that is used to pick up everything that is on the floor or on the sides and put the contents of the basket away in the evening.

When there is so much to do it is so easy to feel overwhelmed. A lot of the time my brain just feels so frazzled trying to think of everything that needs to be done in the day. Making a list will help you not only remember everything, but it will help clear your mind. Also, ticking the jobs of on completion will give a sense of achievement!

Once the kids are in bed, do a quick whizz round the house. This will help you start the next day fresh without trying to pick up from the day before.

If I have to be somewhere in the morning I have had to start preparing the night before. Since having my second baby mornings are an absolute whirlwind. By getting even just your clothes out the night before can help majorly. Do pack lunches, work lunches, uniforms out if you have children in school all the night before. It will save you a lot of time in the morning.

Well there you have it! My top tips on how to keep on top of the housework when you have children.

If you have any tips on how you keep on top of things please share them with me in the comments below!

A sub title for any cleaning list with toddlers should be “Mission Impossible”. I do my best to tidy as I go but I perpetually have 30 lb little person singing “I am the muffin man” following along behind me around the house dumping out bins of toys…

Haha! So true!! I couldn’t agree more I feel the exact same. Some days I just don’t bother

I don’t have any children myself but I can imagine it becomes very hard to keep on top of things! I actually do a few of these myself just to keep organised 🙂

It really does get too much sometimes! I think I would be doing some of these too even if I did not have children, it really helps with organisation ☺️

These are totally true my best is tidy as you go because it really does make everything easier. The worst part is if you say I will come back to it only not to have time and end finding a pile of stuff at the end of the day.

Agree! I am guilty of doing this a bit too much lately. Then the job rolls into the next day.

Great tips! The bathrooms were something that was always hard for me to keep up with when my kids were little.

Yes it’s the same with me now. Its all hard to keep up with when there are little ones around.

That is a fantastic idea about cleaning the bathroom while the kids are in the bath! Something I’ve been doing lately is setting a timer to tackle those spots that tend to pile up and do a different one each day for 15 minutes. I also throw in a load of laundry, move it over or fold at commercials.

You make it sound very easy- but how big is your house? I do most of the above, also with two kids, but still find it never ending on top of going to work too…

Oh gosh it is not easy one bit! My house is a fair size so it’s not small! I think it will be never ending for as long as they live under the roof lol!
